Originally written in January 2021, so much of this article still rings true today. I hope you enjoy and embrace the message of enjoying your life today.
With the start of a new year, most of us usually resolve to do things to make this one better than the last. 2020 however, has been quite a different year for everybody and it brings to mind a quote by Josh Shipp, “You either get BITTER or BETTER”. We can allow the tough times to make us angry and to deplete our energy, or we can find energy in the “newness” and use that energy for our good.
This past year has changed the way we work, live, socialize, communicate and interact. The simple things we used to take for granted are now the very things that we crave. This “new normal” has no doubt created some uncertainty and frustration but it also brings a new appreciation for what we took for granted. Think of how more meaningful it will be when you can again greet your friends with a warm hug.
There is something exciting about doing, getting or feeling something new. It’s an energy quite unlike anything else. That energy of buying a new outfit, starting a new relationship or starting a new hobby creates a sense of excitement. Perhaps lockdown does not provide for the opportunity to buy a new outfit or to start a new relationship in the way that you were once accustomed to, but the possibility (with the help of the internet) still exists. You alone, possess the power to decide what is and what is not possible.
Take a moment to really appreciate your life and maybe you will see something in a new light. Take a look at all the instances that are currently part of your life that bring you joy, excitement or gratitude. Those things that you are or were so accustomed to that you took them for granted. Taking some time to appreciate what you already have, will bring your focus into the present so you can start seeing the many miracles that surround you.
Take a moment to appreciate the people in your life. Is there someone that brought a smile to your face today? Close your eyes. Think about how it felt, the warmth and joy that rushed through your body as that smile was brought to your face. That was just a tiny part of your day but if you tuned into moments like this more often they would soon be the highlight of your day rather than those that you took for granted.
Stop waiting until something the circumstances are right to start enjoying and appreciating your life. There is no guarantee that a perfect moment will ever present itself. This moment will never exist again and we can only do our best to find the opportunity in it. Your happiness doesn’t only exist in the future and hasn’t been lost in the past. Your life is happening right now and it is your choice to decide if you’re going to enjoy it.
When people come into my office, they are usually surprised that the area I’m usually focusing on is not the area that they feel the pain or discomfort. The technique that I use (Network Spinal) places importance on using the energy in the area that is working to engage the whole system to function optimally. It is very draining and inefficient to place all your efforts into something that is not working. Instead, use your resources to magnify what is working and watch as this energy effortlessly disperses to where it is needed.
